{"id":195,"date":"2017-10-24T11:49:52","date_gmt":"2017-10-24T11:49:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glampingteasdale.co.uk\/?p=195"},"modified":"2025-05-25T17:06:29","modified_gmt":"2025-05-25T17:06:29","slug":"free-fishing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/caravancampingteesdale.co.uk\/index.php\/2017\/10\/24\/free-fishing\/","title":{"rendered":"FREE Fishing"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"page_free-fishing_2 title\">\n<h1 class=\"p0\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"c0\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Fishing the River Tees at Leekworth caravan park and campsite<\/span><span class=\"c1\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><br \/><\/span><span class=\"c0\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">(<\/span><span class=\"c1\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">you do require a rod licence<\/span><span class=\"c2\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"c3\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/fishing-licences\/buy-a-fishing-licence\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">click here<\/a><\/span><span class=\"c4\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">)<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page_free-fishing_3 body\">\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"c0\">The river Tees is a prolific game fishing river and the stretch at Leekworth is no exception and contains wild brown trout and grayling in good numbers. \u00a0There are several angling methods for catching these fish including fly fishing with artificial flies, bait fishing with worms or maggots or using a light spinning rod with a lure or spinner. \u00a0The most widely used method for catching trout on the upper Tees is fly fishing with an artificial fly and on most water, no other method is allowed.<\/span><span class=\"c0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p28\"><span class=\"c0\">Fly fishing for Trout and grayling at Leekworth<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p29\"><span class=\"c0\">Equipment for river fly fishing is generally light. \u00a0A rod between 8 and 9 feet and rated for 3-5 weight fly lines is used. \u00a0A floating fly line is the most suitable. \u00a0If you are new to river fly fishing and would like an introduction there are local guides available <\/span><span class=\"c1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.onstream-guide.com\/streamguiding.html\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.onstream-guide.com\/streamguiding.html<\/a><\/span><span class=\"c2\"> who can teach you the basics and get you catching fish very quickly. \u00a0Waders are essential but take extra care when wading in the river Tees. \u00a0It is a spate river and can rise very quickly without warning and the river bed is challenging with various slippery boulders which are not visible. \u00a0Felt-soled wading boots and a wading staff are advised for safety reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p31\"><span class=\"c0\">Flies for the River Tees at Leekworth<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p32\"><span class=\"c0\">A small selection of dry flies and nymphs should see most visiting anglers at Leekworth catching fish. \u00a0My personal favourite dryflies forr this stretch are the Match the Hatch Pale watery and \u201cf\u201d terrestrial flies shown in the pictures. \u00a0These flies can be purchased here <\/span><span class=\"c1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.onstream-guide.com\/sales.html.\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.onstream-guide.com\/sales.html.<\/a><\/span><span class=\"c2\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"c3\"> Dry flies are fished on the surface to catch fish that are rising and feeding on insects on top of the river. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p57\"><span class=\"c0\">Nymphs are also useful for catching trout and grayling and the widely acclaimed pheasant tail and hares ear nymphs are as good as any.
